My Approach

Embodied & Relational Gestalt Counselling & Psychotherapy

I offer Gestalt psychotherapy and counselling. Gestalt therapy is a holistic, experiential and relational approach. It supports you to become more aware of how you think, feel, move and relate - in the present moment and in the wider context of your life.

My approach is practical, creative and attentive to the whole of your experience. I believe we can only be understood as part of the environment in which we live. Our relationships, histories, bodies, communities and surroundings all shape us. We influence, and are influenced by, the world around us all the time.

In therapy, this means we may explore not only what has happened to you, but also how it lives in you now - in your thoughts, feelings, body, relationships and choices.

What happens in therapy?

In our work together, we will explore how you relate to yourself, others and your environment.

This may include:

  • speaking freely about your thoughts, emotions and life events

  • noticing physical sensations, gestures, breathing or patterns of movement

  • exploring what happens between us in the therapy room

  • using creative experiments, imagery, movement or role-play where helpful

  • noticing how you respond in different situations

The therapeutic relationship is central to the work. I aim to offer a steady, thoughtful and compassionate space where we can pay attention to what is happening for you, moment by moment.

A mindful and compassionate approach

I also draw on around 20 years of Buddhist practice and teaching in my therapy work. Where helpful, this may include meditation, mindfulness and compassion-focused practices.

You do not need to be Buddhist, spiritual, or interested in meditation to work with me. These practices are simply part of what informs the way I work: paying attention carefully, meeting experience with kindness, and creating space for things to be seen more clearly.

At its heart, my approach is about supporting a fuller awareness of yourself, your circumstances, and the ways you have learned to survive and adapt. Through therapy, we can begin to explore what still serves you, what may now feel limiting, and what new possibilities may be emerging.

Individual Therapy

What I can offer

I offer both short and long term individual therapy, in person and online.  My main clinic is in Glossop, Derbyshire but I can also see clients in Manchester and online. Sessions are usually weekly for 50 minutes, though due to scheduling needs and other factors, this may vary.

Sessions cost £65. I also keep a small number of concessionary spaces for people who need some financial flexibility. If finances are a concern, please feel free to mention this when you contact me. If these spaces are currently full, I’m happy to add you to my waiting list or recommend other options for affordable counselling.

I also work with selected health insurers. Insurance-funded sessions are billed according to the insurer’s authorised rate

I am a full clinical member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP),the official body of for the training and registration of psychotherapists.  I am registered as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.

I am fully insured and work to the Codes of Ethics and Practice of the GPTI (Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute) and UKCP.
